You’ll see the sleepy Bannerman Town and beautiful church ruins, and travel over both bumpy back rounds before reaching the pink sands of Lighthouse Beach—where you can finally catch your breath. When we finally did take a break from the ocean, we enjoyed sitting at the bars with frozen concoctions (they have kid friendly ones as well). The Princess Cays Island is a Private Island with over 100 acres of white-sand beachfront access and is one of the Carnival Cruise destination ports.

Guests aged 18, 19 and 20 won’t be able to buy any alcoholic drinks while at the resort. If you do want to explore Eleuthera you also have to make sure you’re back in time for the last tender boat back to the ship. Cruise passengers are able to leave Princess Cays and explore the rest of Eleuthera if you want to – it’s not fenced off. Just be aware that most of the best attractions will be found at Princess Cays.

Search Should Be Cruising

The island of Eleuthera has over 11,000 inhabitants and offers some fascinating highlights best discovered on a guided tour (see below). One of the best known residents is singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz who recorded a song called Eleutheria (Freedom) in 1993. Princess Cays covers an area of 40 acres at the south end of Eleuthera Island.

The outdoor shower (essentially a small spigot at head -height) allows you to rinse off with fresh water after your ocean swim. Each bungalow is equipped with four chairs, a small table and a ceiling fan inside the air-conditioned structure. The building functions as a good spot for dining or cooling off, and can be locked if you wish to leave your valuables inside while you explore the beach. There are two lounge chairs outside your bungalow on a private deck. Guests need to tender when going onshore at Princess Cays, as the water is too shallow for the cruise ship to dock. Once on the island, there is an information center and many posted maps to guide passengers along the walkways.

Choose from the main Princess Cays beach bungalows -- good for families -- or the Adults Sanctuary Bungalows in a private, 18-and-over area of the beach. All bungalows accommodate four, and two extra passengers can be added for an additional fee. On a buggy drive beyond Princess Cays Bahamas, you'll pass ruins of houses and the 18th-century Anglican Church of the Assumption. Drivers must be 21 or older with a valid driver's license and passengers must be 10 years of age or older.

One of these sailings will present you with more options when it comes to selecting the perfect date, especially if sailing on Carnival, as their fleet is larger. Guests can use their Princess drink packages on the island, or they can charge beverages to their onboard account. There are a number of spots dotted through the island to get a cold drink or a cocktail. At the northern end of the resort is Bahia Bar, close to the end of North Beach. Eleuthera has abundant marine life and clear water, making it a great place to snorkel and partake in other water activities.
